Canada must offer the best experience to potential immigrants to attract global talent. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is making efforts to decrease wait times and enhance access to timely application information to achieve this goal.
As part of this effort, IRCC has expanded online application status trackers to four additional categories of permanent residence applications. This allows applicants to keep track of their applications, receive updates, and take necessary actions to move their files forward. These tools increase transparency by providing applicants and the representative direct access to the information they would get from contacting IRCC.
Initially launched in May 2021 for citizenship applications and in February 2022 for immigration applications, starting with spouse, partner, and dependent child sponsorship categories, the online application status tracker is now available for Express Entry applicants applying for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Provincial Nominee Program.
Enhancing online tools is a significant aspect of the Canadian government’s efforts to improve client services. Over the past year, IRCC has addressed critical challenges faced by those using the immigration system, and this announcement builds on commitments made by the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, in September 2022 to increase transparency. Online application status tracking will expand to additional application types in the coming months. IRCC is dedicated to creating an efficient and welcoming immigration system for newcomers, visitors, businesses, and all Canadians. While recognizing the need for further work, IRCC appreciates the patience of all applicants as they continue their digital transformation.
